In 1976 Iran is a peaceful, prosperous and westernized country. Katrin is an eight-year-old girl growing up in Northern Iran in a family who follows a minority religion known as the Bahai Religion. Katrin’s seventeen year old sister, Nassrin, commits suicide when Katrin’s father disapproves of Nassrin’s relationship with Hossein who came from a Moslem family.

Veiled Souls is a 159 page memoir by Katrin Kassiri and Reza Safarnejad. The story is based on the true life story of the co-author of the book, Katrin Kassiri, written in first person. Reza Safarnejad

 

Veiled Souls is a book by Katrin Kassiri and Reza Safarnejad.  This book is Katrin's memoirs with some of Reza’s stories interpolated in it.  Her story starts in Iran in 1976 before Iran’s revolution and continues through Iran ’s violent revolution and the Iran-Iraq war.  As Iran’s government is taken over by Muslim extremists and country goes deeper into economic despair, Katrin decides to leave Iran for the United States .  Her only chance to leave the country is to escape illegally with the aid of human and drug traffickers.
